Devutthana Ekadashi (Prabodhini)
Fasting day dedicated to Lord Vishnu. On this Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month cosmic sleep. The auspicious season for weddings and ceremonies resumes.
Why We Celebrate
Prabodhini (Devuthani) Ekadashi marks the day Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month cosmic sleep (Yoga Nidra) that began on Devshayani Ekadashi. With Vishnu awake, the auspicious season for weddings, housewarming ceremonies, and sacred thread ceremonies resumes. Also known as Kartik Ekadashi, it is one of the holiest days for Vaishnavas. The Tulsi Vivah (ceremonial marriage of Tulsi plant to Vishnu) is performed on this day.
