Ram Navami
राम नवमी
Celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, on Chaitra Shukla Navami. Devotees read the Ramayana, visit temples, and perform special prayers honoring Rama as the ideal king.
Why We Celebrate
Ram Navami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama in Ayodhya to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya. Rama is revered as Maryada Purushottam — the ideal man who upheld dharma in every circumstance. His life, chronicled in the Ramayana, teaches duty, honor, compassion, and righteous governance. The festival falls on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri, linking devotion to both Rama and the Divine Mother.
Ram Navami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, born in Ayodhya to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya. After years of prayers and a special yagna (fire ritual) performed by the sage Rishyashringa, the king was blessed with four sons. Rama, born at noon on Chaitra Shukla Navami, is revered as Maryada Purushottam (the ideal man who perfectly upholds dharma).
Rama's life story, told in the epic Ramayana, is a blueprint for righteous living — he honored his father's word by going into exile, remained devoted to his wife Sita, and defeated the demon king Ravana to restore dharma. He embodied duty, compassion, courage, and humility. Ram Navami falls on the ninth and final day of Chaitra Navratri, beautifully linking the worship of the Divine Mother with the birth of Vishnu's avatar.
Today, devotees honor Rama by reading the Ramayana, visiting temples, and chanting his name. In Ayodhya, his birthplace, grand processions and celebrations mark the day. Ram Navami reminds us to live with integrity, honor our commitments, and uphold truth even in the face of adversity.
